Q. How do
I join?
A. You can join by coming to any of
the sessions listed on our sessions page and speaking to a committee
member.
Q. Where
do you play?
A. We play all our social sessions at
The University of Melbourne, Parkville campus. We are located at the
sports centre on Tin Alley.
Q. How
much is it to join?
A. Please view our fees page.
Q. I just
want to pop in for a casual game. Do I need to sign up as a member?
A. Unfortunately, yes. We used to
have visitor/casual passes but due to new Melbourne University Sport
restrictions we no longer do. Everyone must now sign up as a member.
Our best membership offer for a casual player would be our "Affiliate"
membership. This means they will to pay $25 up front for the membership
and $10 every session. Please view our fees page for more fees pricing
information.
Q. Can I
bring friends?
A. Yes, you may bring friends.
However, we no longer provide visitor passes and they will need to sign
up for at least an affiliate membership. Please refer to above.
Q. Are the
social sessions very busy?
A. During the first month or so of
the university semester, the club can get very busy. If we expect lots
of people, we will try to book additional courts. However, this is not
always possible. Please try to be patient during these times. After the
first month or so, the club is much less busy.
Q. How
many courts do you have?
A. Please refer to our sessions page
for court times and allocations.
Q. How
long do you have to wait for a game?
A. On a very good day, you may not
have to wait at all for a game. On an average day, please expect to
wait at least 10-15 minutes for your next game. When we are extremely
busy you may have to wait around 20-25+ minutes. Thankfully, this does
not happen very often.
Q. What
scoring system do you use?
A. We use the new rally point system
of scoring according to the Badminton World Federation rules. We
usually play until 21 points with setting until 30 points. During
extremely busy sessions, we may limit games to 15 points with setting
until 20 points.
Q. Are
there competitions?
A. Every year we have an annual
tournament which is run by the committee. This is usually held around
August/September. Also, there are other tournaments run by other clubs
around Melbourne that many of our members participate in. We will try
to keep members notified of any upcoming tournaments. Please check our
calendar page for dates of these tournaments. Also, every so often we
will may have some friendly matches against other clubs. As there may
be lots of interest, please try to not be too disappointed if you
cannot participate the first time round.
Q. Do you
sell racquets, shoes, shuttles, grips, etc?
A. No, we do not sell any equipment
at all. Our preferred supplier is JTUltra. Their representative is Mr
Jacky Chen He can be contacted at sales@jtultra.com.au.
Q. What
kind of shuttles do you use?
A. We use good quality feather
shuttles. The brand we are currently using is Apacs, which we find is
the best balance between affordability and quality.
Q. I'd
like to help out. How do I join the committee?
A. We always appreciate when members
want to give something back to the club. If you are interested in
joining the committee please let a current committee member know that
you are interested.
Q. Do you
have to be very good to join?
A. No. We have a wide variety of
skill levels among our members. It shouldn't be very difficult to find
players of your own standard to play with. There is always
beginners/intermediate coaching if you are interested in improving! See
below.

there coaching?
A. Yes. There is
beginners/intermediate coaching every Sunday at 1pm.
